I thought my D.M.A. was an M.D…

The Cat House, Italian StyleI have many passions besides music. Some are pretty mainstream and others might be considered a bit odd! For instance, I am fascinated with medicine, both human and animal. So much so, that I read everything I can about the topic. My father, who is a retired medical oncologist, has been a tremendous source of information although I know he does tire of my never-ending interrogation. To feed this obsession, I work part-time at a cat clinic. Although I don’t help with medical procedures or cat care, when I’m not assisting clients, I am forever asking the veterinarians questions about pharmaceuticals, diagnoses, surgical techniques and anything else I can think of…

One of my favorite medical biographies is Dr. Folkman’s War: Angiogenesis and the struggle to defeat cancer by Robert Cooke. Another good book on the search for a cure to cancer is Racing to the Beginning of the Road: The Search for the Origin of Cancer by Robert A. Weinberg. And, if you are looking for support to the theory that fact is stranger than fiction, I suggest Madhouse: A Tragic Tale of Megalomania and Modern Medicine by Andrew Scull.

Like I said, I love medicine.
